HOW DOES CAN WORK?

Do CAN college students have coaches like they do in the high school program?

Yes, students in college are provided with support much like their high school coaches. Our Liaisons, College services are staff members who fill this role by providing near-peer support for students who are both enrolled in college and for those who are taking time off of school. It is our mission to provide all CAN students with support through their high school graduation to college graduation.

Does CAN place a staff member at their partner colleges, full time?
Our current Liaisons are full-time, staff positions that work on-site at our partner colleges a few times during the month. Our goal is to provide as much support to students as needed and as we continue to grow and support are students in college we will continue to seek out opportunities to expand our efforts at the partner colleges.

Does CAN provide support for students who attend out-of-state colleges and universities?
Yes, we support all our CAN students as they continue their education, regardless of where they may be located. Students are provided with one-on-one support via phone, email and or video chats. Additionally, we provide monthly workshops and activities online geared towards college success for students who are unable to attend our workshops in person.

Does CAN track student’s enrollment, persistence and graduation from College?
Yes, our Data and Engagement Specialist works to gather and collect data through various outlets including the National Student Clearinghouse to help maintain our data to measure the success of our students and efforts of our program.

Does the college team work with the high school program at all?
Yes, we work closely in supporting our high school program by providing insight into the needs and successes of our current college students. Where needed, the College Services team is available to support our high school seniors as they begin transitioning into college during high school and through our Campus Ready events during the summer.
