Umpqua Bank is a CAN partner that has supported CAN in more ways than one!

They volunteered with us this past September for United Way’s Day of Caring. The Umpqua Bank team put together goodie bags to help with student recruitment and used their creativity to decorate graduation caps!

Tanya Russell, Universal Associate II, tells us that Umpqua Bank is no stranger to Day of Caring or volunteering. “Each employee actually gets paid 40 hours per year to volunteer with approved organizations.” They focus on “low-income and youth development programs” and were excited to continue their partnership with CAN through volunteering.

When asked why she believes college access and success is important, Tanya stated, “Access to college can be the defining factor in a young person’s life.  A lot of the kids that come from families that have not graduated from college think that it is out of reach for them, especially financially.  There is so much to navigate when applying to college, it truly is a maze and can be very overwhelming.  Having someone there to guide you through the process and helping to ensure you get the grades in high school to get there can make all the difference.  Getting into college and graduating can be the difference between a successful life and a struggling one.”

We had a blast spending the day with Umpqua Bank employees and are excited that they are now a part of our CAN community!
