Volunteer Opportunities

College Coach [NO CURRENT OPENINGS]
    Meeting once a week after school with an economically disadvantaged first-generation-   
    to-college student to provide mentoring through the college admission and financial aid
    application processes.  Offering support and guidance to a Garfield High School student
    who has the desire and motivation to continue into higher education but lacks the
    resources. 
 
Financial Aid Specialist
    Provide CAN students with resources and information on financial aid in order to: ensure
    that each CAN student is connected to financial aid that allows them to attend college,
    ensure that CAN students and families are informed and knowledgeable about their
    financial aid options.
 
CAN Admission Representative [NOT CURRENTLY RECRUITING]
    Identifying economically disadvantaged, first-generation Garfield High School students
    with the potential and motivation for college through: student recruitment, reviewing
    applications and interviewing applicants for admission to the College Access Now
    Program.
 
Public Relations / Newsletter
    Provide public relations support to CAN in order to: maintain community
    support for the Program, promote the CAN Program, coordinate community/
    networking contacts, creating a quarterly newsletter.
 
Resume Writing Instructor
    Providing instruction and guidance to CAN students in creating a resume in order to
    prepare them for: college admission process, obtaining a job/ internships, etc.
 
Procuring Donations and Food
    Seeking out donations of food and office supplies to support CAN programs such as: SAT
    / ACT preparation classes, volunteer appreciation, etc.
 
Internship / Job Opportunities Specialist
    Gather, organize and coordinate opportunities for internships and jobs for CAN
    students to get experience in their fields of interest.  Coordinate a workshop to help
    teach CAN students about job expectations, interview skills, etc and include
    inspirational individuals as career role models.
 
Special Event Support
    Provide help and support for special event planning, such as: Family Outreach events,
    application celebration, financial aid/FAFSA night, end of year celebration, etc.
 
College Essay Specialist
    Provide CAN students with the college essay writing process as an essay support
    volunteer in order to ensure that each CAN student writes the strongest college essay
    they can by having their essay: reviewed and edit comments from essay specialists.
